Hello world!
'Tis me...toiletrollart.
Wow...it has been a long while. There were a few nasty mobile-blogging attempts back in July/August when seeing some live music but other than those, I haven't been around these parts much at all.
I would have much photographic evidence of the life I have been leading away from the internet, but the little hard-drive-that-could couldn't any more and has moved into its new home - a plastic bag in the filing cabinet - where it will sit until one of us comes across a spare $1000 we are happy to use to ATTEMPT data retrieval. So yeah, no photos = no proof of life. It's like my memories have been taken hostage.
So, the past few months in summary???
In June we had a disaster at home involving a burst hot water pipe in the apartment above us (Apt. #13 for those superstitious types) which was followed by days of remedial fan-blowing and carpet cleaning, I co-hosted a baby shower for a friend and we went to a swanky black tie dinner where Jimeon was the entertainment. Ooh-er.
In July, my friend had a little boy, another colleague from work had a little boy and it became apparent something was up (or in the water) at work when it was revealed that a total of 10 babies are now due before the end of 2008 to people who work there or their wives. No, I am not one of those nine people (one is having twins). Oh, and we got a Wii at home. All my friends are buying Wii's now too! We ended the month seeing The Polyphonic Spree in what is probably one of the greatest live shows I have ever seen.
August started in great style - at Splendour in the Grass - where we saw The Polyphonic Spree again in what is definitely the best live festival set I have EVER seen. We saw other bands too but no-one came close to the Spree. Patience's bat girl outfit was very cute though. The following weekend I headed to Melbourne for a few days to visit my step-sister and spend a cold weekend taking photos and eating yummy food. Photos which I no longer have, sadly. Later in the month we tried to escape the Olympic disinterest (although I do love the water cube and bird's nest stadium) by spending a weekend on the Gold Coast meaning I spend three out of the five weekends of August NOT in my own bed. Oh, and we got a nice new big LCD TV.
This was remedied this month. We finally started watching Deadwood after owning Season 1 for the last couple of years (why did we leave it for so long?) and are now happily engrossed in Season 2. We both did the Bridge to Brisbane - Paul ran (very gingerly after pulling his calf) and I walked the full 10km, finishing under my target time (by 19 sec) in 1hr 39min 41sec. We celebrated Father's Day with each of our families and a dead iMac, and my mother and her partner came home after their six month overseas trip which finished in Beijing after hitting South America, Europe, North Africa, more Europe, Russia and the Trans-Siberian to Mongolia. Paul travelled around central Queensland for work and I stayed home and shopped for new work threads. I spent one weekend in bed sick and then followed it with a crazy two weeks preparing for a big function at work, with a new iMac purchase slotted in one lunch hour and then the Brisbane City Romp on the hottest day since Summer thrown in for good measure. This week the big work function happened and we settled back into our work-tv-sleep-work ritual all over again. Right now I am blogging as the girl from our real estate agent wanders around our apartment checking up on us again, for the third time this year already.
And next month? Well there's more work, a visiting step-sister, my niece's 3rd birthday (it must be like turning 18 in the toddler world - finally there are all those toys you can get and fearlessly stick in your mouth), work again, a comedy gig, two weeks of jury duty and hopefully, somewhere in there, some fun times. After all, I only have two and bit months of my 20's left...
I might post some photos later too, the ones that were saved only because I took the after the hard-drive died.
